Aykeem Spivey & Maggie Adams, in collaboration with friends and peers alike, created a space to reconsider our relationship to humanity. Amniotic Ambiguity orients those who choose to engage with the work like an embryo floating in the womb. No longer bound by gravity, curiosity is free to take root next to discomfort. You are invited to transport yourself back to our incubation where lines between self and other are blurred. Hierarchies have the potential to dissolve here, where we embody ambiguity as a seemingly alien creature that is unsettling yet universal to all vertebrates; comparative embryology is a key for unlearning the false hierarchies that position humanity above life outside itself.

In this space, disorientation is not to be feared when you are held so carefully. Incubation means pausing to process before responding to change. All life participates in this and relies on it for survival. It is in this space that we aspire to break free from false binaries using the mandorla—a symbol coined to unify opposites and operate in the in-between—to push the possibilities of what it means to be alive, what it means to be human when humanity is a privileged class not afforded to all beings.
